"The figure of the Palhik Mana is one of the most deceptive of all Hopi Kachinas.  It is probably best to think of this kachina as a continuum beginning with the simple Poli Mana at one end, and finishing with the Hopi Salako Mana at the other.  Portrayed in ceremony by both women and men, somewhere in the middle lies the Palhik Mana.  Sometimes defined as the Corn Grinding Girls, the name Pahlik is said to be derived from the fact that the women drink a very thin gruel as food when they dance during the Mamzrau Ceremonial."
